St. Mary Lake

St. Mary Lake is a massive lake on the eastern side of Glacier National Park. It's flanked by huge mountains on each side, with the mountains being larger on the southern side of the lake. This painting is looking east with Curly Bear Mountain in the distance. I did a plein air study on location (click here) which gave me the colors that I knew a camera would not capture. I wanted to give the viewer a sense of the aerial perspective that I experienced when I was there.
